Having a strong dislike or grudge against someone, being unable to tolerate them from the start, often due to a past conflict or misunderstanding that has created lasting tension.
To completely upend the rules or established order, usually abruptly. In Argentina 'patear el tablero' means blowing up what was agreed to start fresh from zero.
To hit the mark exactly, to say or do precisely what the situation required. In the Southern Cone, dar en el blanco is the compliment for someone who got it exactly right with no room for interpretation.
Drunkenness, or a drunk person. In Argentina and the Southern Cone, curda is the word for being loaded — 'agarrar una curda' means getting properly drunk, and a curda is someone who's clearly had too much.
A student who does nothing but study — the overachieving academic who prioritizes grades above all else. In Argentina and Chile, mateo isn't always a compliment; it carries the implication of social isolation and an unbalanced life.
