/Sounds like the English word "pat" + "eh" (as in "egg") + "AHR" (as in "art") + "EHL" (as in "egg") + "tah" (as in "tar") + "BLEH" (as in "blend") + "roh" (as in "row")/

Meaning

To completely upend the rules or the established order, usually abruptly. In Argentina and Uruguay, patear el tablero means blowing up what was agreed in order to start fresh, flipping the whole board over when a process has stalled or when someone decides the current setup simply is not working.

Examples

The new director flipped everything and restructured the whole team in a week.

Sometimes upending everything is the only way out when nothing is moving forward.

Regional synonyms
