A shop that makes and sells tortas — those generous Mexican sandwiches stuffed with breaded meat, ham, cheese, avocado, and whatever else fits between two crusty rolls. Every neighborhood has its go-to spot where the tortas are cheap, massive, and legendary.
Messed up, broken, ruined, or in bad shape. In Mexico, it's one of the most versatile words — it can describe anything from a broken appliance to a destroyed situation.
A basic, classless, or broke person in Yucatecan slang. It's the regional insult for someone with no style, no money, and no social standing — at least in the eyes of whoever's judging.
To have sex in Latin America. It's one of the words that causes the most misunderstandings between Spaniards and Latin Americans, because the meaning is completely sexual.
Something difficult, tough, or impressive. In Mexico, 'está cañón' is a wildcard that can be positive (really good) or negative (really complicated) depending on tone.
