A working-class neighborhood or area of humble housing with a strong community identity. In Panama and other countries, barriada can be neutral or carry connotations of poverty depending on context.
A lazy person who refuses to do absolutely anything and would rather lie around staring at the ceiling than be productive. The flojo is a master at coming up with creative excuses to not lift a finger.
Same as in English, the child of a famous or powerful person who got their career thanks to their parents's connections rather than their own talent. The term went viral globally and Spanish speakers adopted it as-is, using it to call out actors, singers, influencers, and politicians who were born on third base and act like they hit a triple. Widely used on social media across all of Latin America and Spain.
An American or a light-skinned foreigner with Anglo-Saxon features. In most of Latin America it's neutral or even friendly — just a descriptive word, not necessarily an insult.
A shortened, cutesy version of "amor" (love), super popular in texts and social media. It is the Spanish equivalent of calling someone "babe" or "boo," casual, affectionate, and a little flirty. Mostly used between couples or very close friends. You will see it constantly in DMs and WhatsApp messages across Latin America.
