Meaning

A toned-down, street-friendly shortening of a harsh Chilean insult, used by younger generations as a casual jab or filler without sounding too heavy. The most used euphemism of its kind in current Chilean youth slang.

That quil has owed me money for months.

What's your problem, quil, don't give me a hard time.

Regional synonyms

A corrupt official who demands bribes to do their job. In Venezuela, a matraquero will not process your paperwork, let you through a checkpoint, or do anything at all unless money changes hands. The name comes from "matraca," a noisy rattle: they keep making noise until you pay.
