Meaning

Chicano Spanglish for a bill or invoice, from English "bill." The electric bil, the phone bil, the doctor bil: anything that arrives by mail and needs to be paid.

Examples

The electricity bil was super expensive this month.

I haven't paid the cable bil - they're going to cut it off.

Regional synonyms

A sweater or knit pullover for keeping warm in cold weather. In the Andes (Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia) the word comes from the English "jumper" and covers any warm garment of that shape, regardless of material or style. If it keeps the mountain cold out, it is a chompa.
