/Sounds like "CHAH-yah"/
An Andean blessing ritual where alcohol (usually beer, chicha, or singani) is poured onto the ground, a new object, or a place to give thanks and ask for good luck. In Bolivia you challa a newly bought car, a house being moved into, a business just opening. It comes from Aymara and Quechua, and is central to the Andean worldview: giving back a little to Pachamama for what she gave you.
"Hicimos la challa del auto nuevo. → We did the blessing ceremony on the new car."
"La challa de carnaval dura tres días. → Carnival challa lasts three days."
