Meaning

Chicano Spanglish for the job site supervisor or crew boss, from the English "foreman." He's the one who assigns the work, sets the pace, and who you report to on construction sites, farm labor, or factory floors.

Examples

The foreman said we're staying late today.

If you show up late again the foreman is going to fire you.

Regional synonyms

To be completely wiped out, physically or emotionally destroyed. In Spain, "hecho polvo" describes an exhaustion so total there's nothing left: it applies equally to running a marathon and to receiving devastating news.
