Meaning

A Chilean expression for extreme cold, especially common in the southern regions of the country. It is the go-to hyperbole when temperatures drop to genuinely brutal levels. "Hoyo" here is a colloquial stand-in for a very cold and unpleasant place.

In Punta Arenas it gets absolutely freezing in July, you cannot imagine it.
