Bandera de República Dominicana

/Sounds like "foo-KOO"/

Bad luck, curse, or negative energy in Dominican Spanish. "Ese tipo tiene fucú" means that guy brings bad vibes, whatever he touches breaks. It comes from Afro-Caribbean vocabulary with voodoo and Santería roots, but became an everyday and humorous word at the same time. Dominicans use it to blame invisible forces when things keep going wrong.

Example

"Tengo fucú esta semana. → I've got bad juju this week."

"Ese carro tiene fucú. → That car is cursed."
