Meaning

In Spain, the convincing appearance of something that seems real or high quality even if it is not. "Dar el pego" means pulling off the illusion well enough that nobody notices the difference. A useful word for fakes, impostors, and anyone who dresses for the job they want.

Examples

La imitación da el pego perfectamente, nadie nota la diferencia. (The imitation is so convincing that nobody notices the difference.)

Con ese traje da el pego de ejecutivo aunque no lo sea. (With that suit he passes as an executive even though he's not one.)
