/Sounds like "pee" (as in "pea") + "KAHR" (as in "car") + "EHL" (as in "egg") + "OH" (as in "oh") + "hoh" (as in "hope")/

Meaning

To wink at someone as a silent signal of shared understanding, agreement, or complicity in Chile and Argentina. When words would be awkward or unnecessary, a wink says "we both know what this means" without anyone having to spell it out.

Examples

Le picó el ojo cuando mencionó el precio y supe que había margen.

She winked when she mentioned the price and I knew there was room to negotiate.

He winked at his partner right before signing, like confirming everything was going according to plan.

Regional synonyms

Overused and totally worn out. In Argentina, Chile, and Colombia, when a joke, a song, or an excuse is "quemado," everyone already knows it and nobody finds it fresh or funny anymore. The magic is gone from too much repetition.
