A Chilean expression for extreme cold, especially in the southern part of the country. The perfect hyperbole for the low temperatures a Chilean feels when the thermometer drops below what's comfortable.
To feel terrible, be in the worst possible mood, or be in a genuinely bad situation. In Chile this expression describes the absolute lowest point of mood or circumstance. When someone feels this way, they're not available for anything.
To be going through a rough patch, having bad luck, or in economic hardship. In the Southern Cone 'estar en la mala' is the diagnosis for someone stuck in a streak of bad luck.
To put on pants is a metaphor for instant maturity, meaning to take difficult decisions or assume responsibilities that were being avoided.
To go unnoticed, to blend into the background without anyone paying attention. In Argentina passing unnoticed is sometimes a strategy and sometimes a failure — depends entirely on whether you wanted to be seen.
