Meaning

Someone who covers up or enables other people's bad behavior out of complicity or convenience, staying silent when they should speak up. In Colombia and Venezuela, an alcahuete is the person who knows everything but says nothing because it suits them or because they are too conflict-averse to call it out.

Examples

The dad enables every one of his son's bad moves and never says a word about it.

Don't be complicit, speak up and tell them what you saw in that meeting.

Regional synonyms

In Chile, to snitch or rat someone out to an authority figure or someone who shouldn't know. A buchón betrays trust by telling what they know in order to get someone in trouble.
