To be broke, without resources, in a tight financial situation. In Chile 'andar pato' means being at the economic edge. A duck has nothing, not even bus fare.
“I'm broke this week, waiting for Friday.”
“He never invites anyone, he's always broke.”

A cheap, stingy person who won't spend a dime even if their life depended on it. In Colombia, calling someone chichipato means they're the type to never chip in for group expenses and always find excuses to avoid paying. It can also describe something of poor quality or not worth the effort.
