Meaning

Abundant, in large quantity or volume. In Argentina and Uruguay, "copioso" applies to heavy rain, a very generous meal, or anything that comes in an amount clearly above normal. More common in journalistic and formal registers, but also used in everyday speech.

Examples

Cayó una lluvia copiosa que cortó el tránsito durante horas. (A heavy downpour fell and stopped traffic for hours.)

Sirvieron una cena copiosa para los invitados de la boda. (They served an abundant dinner for the wedding guests.)

Regional synonyms

An edible flower widely used in Salvadoran and Guatemalan cooking. Loroco is the classic filling for pupusas paired with cheese, with a mild, distinctive aroma and flavor unlike any other culinary flower. If you eat pupusas in El Salvador or Guatemala, you have almost certainly tasted it.
