Meaning

A Mexican and Chicano expression meaning to make a scene, overreact, or blow something small into major drama. "No la hagas de tos" is asking someone to calm down and not inflate what already happened. The person who "hace de tos" always finds a reason to escalate.

Examples

No la hagas de tos, fue un error sin intención y ya. (Don't make a big deal out of it, it was an honest mistake.)

Siempre la haces de tos por cualquier cosita, relájate un poco. (You always blow things out of proportion over the smallest stuff, just relax.)

Regional synonyms

A street-level Colombian way to refer to someone, rougher and more urban than 'parce.' It's used a lot in the popular slang of Medellín and Bogotá among young people.
