Meaning

In Mexico, a jack-of-all-trades handyman who does whatever odd job is needed: plumbing, painting, gardening, errands. The go-to guy in the neighborhood who can fix anything.

We called the mil usos from down the block to fix the leak.

My uncle is a total mil usos - he can paint your house or fix your water heater.

Regional synonyms

To back down, admit you were wrong, or stop clinging to a losing position. In Mexico and Guatemala, when someone finally "baja del burro" (gets off the donkey), they drop the ego and accept reality. The image is concrete: a stubborn rider who finally dismounts and admits the journey is over.
