A contraction of "no más" meaning "only," "just," or "nothing more" in Mexican and Chicano Spanish. It's one of the most used words in daily northern Mexican conversation and in Chicano communities in the US, and it works both as a limiter ("nomás tengo cinco pesos" = "I only have five pesos") and as a light filler ("nomás te digo" = "I'm just saying"). It marks the Mexican speaker apart from the rest of the Spanish-speaking world within three words.

"Nomás quiero un cafecito. → I just want a little coffee."

"Te llamo nomás para saludar. → I'm just calling to say hi."

Regional synonyms:

An extremely skilled, talented, and impressive person, or something of excellent quality that leaves you in awe. In Mexico, chingón is the highest informal praise, if you're chingón, you're the best.
