Uña
/Sounds like "OO" (as in "Uber") + "nyah" (as in "Nyan")/
A thief or someone who steals small things, a petty crook in Mexico. If someone has a reputation as an "uña" (literally "fingernail"), it means everyone hides their stuff when you show up because anything left unattended mysteriously disappears around you. It's more about sneaky swiping than armed robbery.

A hard open-handed slap across the face. In Mexico and Central America, "galleta" (literally "cookie") is used for a sharp, flat hit that stings. The word choice does not soften it at all: everyone knows exactly what kind of impact is meant.
