Meaning

Lunfardo slang, possibly from Italian "ammurare" (to wall in). In Argentina and Uruguay, to stand someone up without showing up or even sending a message, leaving them waiting for nothing.

Examples

She stood me up at the restaurant and did not pick up the phone all night.

Do not stand me up this time. I really need you to come.

Regional synonyms

In Mexico, a table dancer or strip club performer. The word is Mexico's own phonetic adaptation of the English "table dancer," fully absorbed into everyday Mexican slang. Also used colloquially, sometimes dismissively, to describe someone who dresses or dances in a very provocative way.
