Bandera de Argentina
Bandera de Uruguay

/Sounds like "ca" (as in "car") + "reh" + "ta" (as in "taco")/

A fake person who pretends to be something they are not, especially in social situations. In Argentina and Uruguay, you call someone "careta" when they act all proper and respectable in public but are completely different behind closed doors, or when they fake a lifestyle they can't actually afford.

Example

"No seas careta, todos sabemos que te gusta el reggaetón. -> Don't be fake, we all know you like reggaetón."

"Es re careta, en Instagram parece millonario y vive con los viejos. -> He's so fake, on Instagram he looks like a millionaire but he lives with his parents."
