Meaning

To hit very hard or to cause devastating damage, physically or figuratively. Used in Mexico. It is the expression of maximum impact with nothing held back: a brutal punch, a hard fall, a crushing piece of news, or a crushing defeat. When something "da en la madre," the effect is not mild.

Examples

Le dio en la madre con la verdad en el peor momento posible.

He hit her with the truth at the absolute worst moment and the damage was brutal.
