Bandera de México

/fa-yu-KE-ro/

A street vendor who sells smuggled or informally imported merchandise. In Mexico, the 'fayuquero' moves goods that crossed the border without paying taxes — electronics, clothing, perfumes — at half the retail price. A fixture of tianguis culture and working-class economics.

Example

"I bought the headphones from the street vendor at the market — half the price."

"That vendor has the latest iPhones before the stores do."
