Meaning

To go off on tangents and talk around a topic without ever getting to the point. The person who "goes off through the branches" is the expert at saying a lot while saying absolutely nothing, especially when they want to avoid answering directly. Common in Spain.

Examples

Venga, no te vayas por las ramas y dime exactamente qué pasó. (Come on, stop beating around the bush and tell me exactly what happened.)

Siempre se va por las ramas cuando le hacen preguntas directas. (He always goes off on tangents when asked direct questions.)

Regional synonyms

Really tough, intense, or hard to deal with. In Colombia it's used to describe difficult situations or people with a strong, determined character.
