Bandera de Paraguay

/Sounds like "koo-nyah-tah-EE"/

A Guaraní word used in Paraguay for a young woman, a girl, or a young lady. It literally means "young woman" in Guaraní ("kuña" woman plus a diminutive), and it's used in Paraguayan Spanish naturally, both in casual conversation and in songs, poetry, and everyday speech. Saying "kuñataí" instead of "chica" signals you're actually Paraguayan, not just a generic Spanish speaker.

Example

"Esa kuñataí es prima de Pedro. → That young woman is Pedro's cousin."

"Las kuñataí de mi barrio son estudiantes. → The girls from my neighborhood are students."
