/Sounds like the English word "petat" + "eh" (as in "egg") + "AHR" (as in "art")/

Meaning

To die, to kick the bucket. In Mexico, petatear comes from petate, the woven mat on which the poor were laid to die or were buried on. It's darkly poetic slang, blunt and black-humored about death.

Examples

El vecino petateó anoche, descanse en paz.

The neighbor passed away last night, rest in peace.

With that lifestyle, what he's going to do is die young.

A charming rogue in Spain: someone with wit and cunning who always has a trick up their sleeve but never loses their likability. The tunante is not truly bad, just very skilled at getting their way, and you cannot help but admire them a little for it.
