Meaning

A lot, a huge amount of something in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. It's the quintessential Central American intensifier that adds punch to any sentence.

Examples

There was a vergo of people at the concert, we couldn't fit.

I've got a vergo of homework to turn in.

Flashing official credentials or a badge to bypass rules, skip a line, or get preferential treatment. In Mexico, a "charolazo" is how someone with authority cuts through bureaucracy or avoids a process the rest of us have to follow. It can also refer to an informal cash payment to smooth things over with a police officer.
