Meaning

Something of poor quality, cheap, or not worth what it claims to be. In Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic, "fufú" describes anything with a deceptive appearance: looks okay on the outside, disappoints the moment you actually use it.

Examples

Ese celular es un fufú, se rompe con cualquier golpe. (That phone is a piece of junk, it breaks at the slightest bump.)

Le regalé algo fufú porque no tenía presupuesto. (I gave him something cheap because I didn't have the budget for anything better.)

Regional synonyms

To feel so embarrassed you genuinely wish you could disappear from the planet at that exact moment. Used across the Spanish-speaking world to describe the peak of social embarrassment, when you do not know where to look or what to do with yourself.
