Meaning

In Argentina, to go way overboard, exaggerate beyond all reasonable limits, or do something so disproportionate it becomes absurd. The image of "going to the grass" evokes leaving the marked path and wandering into uncontrolled territory. Applies to prices, reactions, amounts, or behavior.

Examples

He went completely overboard with the price, that's not worth even half of what he's asking.

We went way too far with the food, we bought enough for ten people.

Smuggled or contraband goods brought into Mexico from abroad without paying customs, the black market treasure of border cities. Fayuca is everything from electronics to clothing sold under the table, usually cheaper and sometimes better than what's in the stores. Border towns run on it.
