/Sounds like "NOH" (as in "note") + "cheh" (as in "check") + "DEH" (as in "debt") + "beh" (as in "bed") + "LOH" (as in "loan") + "ryoh"/

Meaning

A long, tedious situation that feels like it will never end, by analogy with the all-night funeral wake. In Mexico and Guatemala, if something is a "noche de velorio" it dragged on for hours without going anywhere meaningful.

Examples

Waiting at the emergency room was brutal, I got there at nine and did not leave until the early hours.

Regional synonyms
