/Sounds like "VAH-yah pwehs"/

A Central American farewell, especially Honduran, Salvadoran, and Guatemalan, equivalent to "goodbye," "later," or "see you around." It's the standard way to close a conversation without ceremony: vaya pues, see you tomorrow. It also works as an affirmation ("vaya pues, agreed") or as a filler at the end of an explanation. Intonation defines the shade, but the effect is always closing the subject.

Example

"Vaya pues, nos vemos el sábado. → Alright, see you Saturday."

"Vaya pues, yo me encargo. → Alright, I'll take care of it."

Regional synonyms:

A vulgar, trashy, or street smart person with bad manners in Chile. It's a derogatory term describing a specific social stereotype, similar to "chav" in British English or "ratchet" in American slang. Being called a flaite in Chile is definitely not a compliment, it implies loud, aggressive, and classless behavior.
