/Sounds like "TEE" (as in "tea") + "oh" (as in "oh")/

Meaning

An informal way to address literally anyone in Spain regardless of whether they're actually your uncle. It's just a social filler word so deeply ingrained that Spaniards can't go two sentences without saying it.

Examples

Hey tío, what's up! How's it going?

That tío is nice, I like him.

Don't be rude, tío, it was just a joke.

A Mexican expression for someone who's freaked out, disoriented, or mentally somewhere else. The literal idea is being 'pulled out of your wavelength,' as if your brain got disconnected from reality for a moment. It describes anyone reacting weirdly, losing their train of thought, or just acting off.
